JIRI KALFAR SS18 PRESENTATION
With his alluring looks and distinctively chiseled bone structure, the sweetly coy, professional ballet dancer turned fashion designer from Prague showcased his SS18 collection at this seasons London Fashion Week. Encompassing references of his theatrical roots, the bubble bee inspired collection is an ode to a more environmentally conscious society, in effort to create more sustainable ways of ensuring the protection of our depleting bees and their colonies whilst producing luxurious elegant garments.
Held in the extravagant L’escargot in the heart of soho – the combination of regal colours, characteristic features, rich worn tapestries and vintage furniture, with its list of VIP’s that have dined there from Coco Chanel, John Gielgud, Mick Jagger, to Elton John, Ralph Richardson and Judy Dench, – further accentuated each accent of each of the garments sequinned details presented within JIRI KALFAR exhibition. The prominent use of gold, black and florals, symbolised the queen bee and the field gardens where bees pollinate .
Challenging resourceful and environmentally motivated ways of creating combinations of day wear, ready-to-wear and evening wear, the collection continues to push the boundaries of gender fluidity, innovative in its shapes, silhouettes and its use of sequins, velvet, lace and silk, personifying the environments natural beauty.
