Australia’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is underway, where the fashion likes of Susie Bubble, Tuula Vintage’s Jessica Stein and surprise cameo from actor Gerard Butler are soaking up the country’s fashion flavours. The DI Form is head over heels for Melbourne design duo Strateas.Carlucci, Peter Strateas and Mario-Luca Carlucci the two creative minds behind the label launched in January 2012. Within the space of two years the Australian label has managed to create some unbelievable moments, with Harpers Bazaar featuring their garments on the supermodel and iconic personality Coco Rocha. Successes like this paired with their understanding of clean cuts and hand crafted artistry have made Strateas.Carlucci rise to a well-deserved fame status.

At the beginning of this year their label won the prestigious Tiffany & Co.’s National Design Award, that has been handed down to other great Australian designers Dion Lee and Christopher Esber to name a few. The National Award judge Kellie Hush explained “Their attention to detail and the quality of their tailoring is first class.” and Festival CEO Graeme Lewsey praised the duo also saying they “presented a very impressive collection on behalf of all the judges, we believe the label demonstrated the strongest potential for future development and global success”(read the full piece on the Tiffany & Co Award here)

In their bio the creative two describe their label’s collections as being “defined by their style and cut, not by tags and branding. Garments are adorned by handcrafted and hand cast silver jewellery, which can be united and worn.” It’s this understanding of design excellence that was seen on their runway presentation at 2014 MBFWA, with gorgeous sheer tops that clinged to the models bodies while embellished with silver zip details mixed with flowy and draped materials. There was fusion of an edgy modern girl with an understanding of design elegance, portrayed in both the mens and womens garments seen on the runway. The color palette moved from black, white, muted creams to navy with zip covered jackets in leather to oversized knits paired with simple black strappy heels for the girls and laced up navy shoes for the boys.

The label has definitely made their mark since showcasing their AW13 collection to a small select few in Paris to now being nominated for the Woolmark Prize. The design duo’s plans are up and beyond with them taking the label abroad again to take on international runways whilst undertaking plans to make their mark in the retail world. With such a chic showing of their collection Fracture at MBFWA, they are definitely on the right path to conquer the fashion world.
