Keeping it cool is the two designers Agape Mdumulla and Sam Cotton, who are the genius guys behind the London menswear label Agi & Sam. They both met whilst interning for Alexander Mcqueen and have become known for their quirky vibrant digital prints. Loved by design icon Paul Smith and having worked within Karl Largerfeld and J.W Anderson design houses, this 2011 established label is slowly becoming a new household name.
With such a unique inspiration behind each print that walks their runways it’s quite hard to believe Agape and Sam design each print themselves. In an interview with Cool Hunting they both explained how they loved being involved in the print work “Everything we produce is quite personal to our own humour and the way we work with colour and print might be quite hard for an artist to kind of understand and hence wouldn’t come out quite right in the print.” (Read the full Cool Hunting article here)

The fashion chemistry between these two is impeccable, with Sam coming from a background of illustration and Agape studied fashion making an enticing duo. After showcasing their designs at London Fashion week, it was no wonder after receiving the Man Show award (an initiative between Topman and Fashion East) their label had to seek change to become bigger. When Agape spoke to Zach Etheart from Interview Magazine about the designing dynamic progression, he expressed how quickly they adapted to all the success “Sam was a design stylist and I was like a print stylist. He’d be like, “Oh, maybe we should change that,” and I’d do that on the print side. But as the business has developed, that’s kind of merged a bit more.” (See the full Interview Article here)

The label’s love for humorous and eye-catching prints has become their trademark. With their Autumn Winter 2011 collection the designs sported the spirit of 80s hip-hop and paired skintight pants with colorful print jackets. (As seen in the images above) It’s the energizing life seen in their designs that landed them a collection with Topman, in July 2013. When designing Agi & Sam’s Topman collection, the creative duo highlighted their unusual take on prints. They took inspiration from the 2012 Olympics and focused on Britain’s love for Football. Creating a fantasy team called “The Owls” and printed the garments with watercolors, feathers, and owls on football jerseys. (Seen below)
