As the iconic movie quote goes – if you build, he will come, and by he, we mean they – the guests. We may or may not get the chance to relax and unwind on a secluded beach at some tropical destination, but if there is one (second best) thing about summer, it’s the plethora of outdoor parties, whether they’re thrown in a huge garden or on a rooftop, as long as there’s a pool, the luxurious summer vibes will be felt. Now, this is a casual and breezy affair, so you want to dazzle but not look like you’re trying too hard. When in doubt – always have the word ‘breezy’ in mind, and the right outfit will come to you.
Now, in case you’re running short on inspiration, we have an idea or two that will hopefully spark the creative drive and help to eventually make your own outfits – think of us as Stanley Tucci to your Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada. He helped her out when she was just a caterpillar, and by the end, she spread her gorgeous wings and flew away all on her own.
The resort style
Just because you aren’t at a luxurious resort doesn’t mean you can’t snag some style secrets from the resort collections. These are usually dominated by evergreen stripes, and tropical prints, so dare to wear them. Something along the lines of this gorgeous Carolina Herrera full-length striped dress is perfect for those parties when you are either expected to dazzle or simply have a particular someone you wish to leave breathless. The colors are vibrant, the décolletage is bold yet classy, and the belt in a contrasting hue is a wonderful touch.
You can leave your hair down for a touch of those carefree vibes, or go for a simple sleek bun and be the epitome of summer grace.
Just in case
Where there’s a pool, there’s always the possibility of going in for a quick dip, and this is an additional chance to flaunt your excellent taste in fashion with gorgeous and trendy designer swimwear. You can pop in an elegant white asymmetrical one piece that features cut-outs in all the right places, or go with a dominant pastel two-piece – whichever flatters your figure most.
Now, when wearing a swimsuit, you want to have something light over it, something that is stylish but also easy to remove. A white knitted kaftan is a wonderful choice, especially if you style it up with a wide belt in a prime color and make a proper dress out of it. Then, when it’s time to jump in, you will slip out of it with ease and be ready with a whole new look. A clear PVC bag is a great choice as it will provide the perfect mixture of boho and bold contemporary style.
A classic never fails
Whether you have any intention of going in for a quick dip or not, put on a swimsuit just in case. However, the rest of your outfit doesn’t have to ‘reveal’ your intentions. This outfit is a mixture of classic and summer trends, so put on a stylish pair of high-waist shorts in a tropical print and use a simple wide white button-up shirt for the top. You can choose to tuck it in or tie it in the front, but make sure you leave a few buttons undone and spread the collar so your minimalistic jewelry can get some attention.
Sunglasses with colorful frames are a must – something along the lines of bright orange, along with a round woven bag and wedges to match. This is your time to exude those French Riviera vibes, even if you’re in a garden in the middle of LA or NYC.
The second simplest thing
If a dress is the simplest thing a woman can pull out of her closet, the second surely has to be a great single-color jumpsuit. Choose a hue that makes you pop, you can even go with black if it’s an evening party. You’ll look sophisticated yet casual at the same time, and if you want to add a pop of color, there is always the trending turban (thank you, Marc Jacobs) that you can make using a floral print scarf and add a touch of mystique to your look. If you don’t feel like putting on heels – especially if there is a grass situation going on, a stylish pair of flat mules will take care of things and make the look complete, along with just a few gold bangles – for additional pizzazz.
You are definitely covered for at least four to five upcoming parties, but with these guidelines, we have no doubt you’ll be able to ‘cook something new up’ in case an invite to a sixth party arrives.
