Structural elegance, luxurious leather, exotic prints and contemporary design are a few words to describe the Emily Cho handbag line. Moving from a contemporary clothing line in 2009, the design duo Emily Gellis and SJ Cho found their way into creating Emily Cho in 2010. After noticing a void in the handbag market, they decided to redefine high quality bags with affordable prices. With this vision in mind SJ and Emily ventured to Italy to find the perfect manufacturer for their handbags where they discovered a family owned factory that had been specializing in handbag production for over sixty years, making it a perfect fit, for their new groundbreaking vision. The stand out pieces from their collections has been the folded clutch (seen above) and their lady triangle bag (seen below), it’s these now iconic styles that have landed the Emily Cho bags in retailers such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Fred Segal Boutique, Singer 22 just to name a few.

It’s not only the designers love for chic handbags with a bold statement that make Emily Cho a stand out but Emily and SJ’s contrasting backgrounds make their label simply unique. Emily, a New York graduate who went into buying contemporary ready to wear pieces for Intermix, whilst SJ grew up in South Korea and studied Oriental painting. SJ has an extensive skill set within in fashion design from pattern making to accessory design that gives Emily Cho an unexpected edge over the rest, along with Emily styling each photo shoot and look book for the label. Their diverse history has created a must-have item for fashion bloggers, celebrities and stylist.

Their love for structural design in a handbag has not only given them the love of all fashionistas but has been featured in Rachel Zoe’s must have accessories describing the Floral Folded Over Clutch as “Way Fun!”and a clutch with a “sumptuous leather exterior and unexpected fold-over construction.” This review is one of the many things their label has achieved, with Emily Cho’s pieces being featured on The Carrie Diaries, WWD and many more. The Emily Cho bag is already gaining international notoriety; it was only in 2011 their Fall Winter collection created an excited buzz and within that small timeframe they have made their mark.

When interviewed by Style Is Eternal the ladies described the label’s inspiration “Everything- people we see, architecture, animals, insects, you name it. The world is our oyster.”(Read Style Is Eternal’s full article here) Each piece that SJ and Emily create reflects their wealth of knowledge on what an “IT” bag needs with each collection exceeding the next! It was only 2012 when these ladies spoke to Fashion Qanda’s writer Vanessa Voigt about their idea of having Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl holding one of their lady triangle bags. (see full Fashion Wanda interview here) In Gossip Girl Season 5 their dreams became a reality but with the breathtaking beauty Blake Lively holding the Folded Over Clutch (seen below), which was featured in OK! Magazine, Bag Snob and landed them Style & Life Magazine’s best bag of the week!
