First come the runway designs, then the celebrities and finally, fashion bloggers and influencers – this has always been the way the fashion hierarchy works. However, as much as we love following the most ostentatious and at times downright outrageous and artful runway moments, we know that most of them aren’t wearable in real life, nor do they coincide with the lifestyles of mere mortals. Then, we have our beloved celebrities, who take the best and most wearable from the runways and actually make us believe that we can pull off the same looks too.
Now, there are tons of inspiring celebrity moments from red carpets to casual paparazzi-caught off-duty looks, but the most coveted looks of them all are – weekend getaways. Magazines have entire articles dedicated to the now ‘household’ airport style section, so let’s take a peek into how the A-listers travel and how they do vacation style, so we can draw inspiration and even steal a few looks on the way.
The airport is your runway
Hey, if it can be Victoria Beckham’s, it can be yours as well. All jokes aside, the attire we choose when traveling to our destination of choice used to be all about comfort, but airport style has gained tremendous significance over the years, so it’s important that you walk down that ‘runway’ in style. Still, as the athleisure trend has taught us, comfort doesn’t have to give way to style, so you most certainly can have both.
Depending on who you are as a style persona, you can take a full-on athletic approach when dressing for your journey and pull a Bella Hadid or Kendall by putting on your most stylish and comfortable tracksuit, your most comfortable and trendy sneakers, great luggage (just in case you choose to make a few snaps), and of course, let us not forget the inevitable sunglasses and a great, solid duffle. On the other hand, if full-on athleisure mode isn’t your cup of tea, you can always take a more subdued route with, for instance, a gorgeous stretchy pair of trendy women’s jeans, a simple tee and a stylish embroidered statement jacket – which will go perfectly with sneakers as well, because comfort does come first.
Cute, bohemian and sexy
Let’s take a page from Miranda Kerr’s vacation book and return to gorgeous summer dresses. An outfit comprised of a stylish button-down maxi dress simply topped off with a summer straw hat and flat sandals – and of course, inevitable great sunglasses is what summer vacation is all about. Not only is this outfit the perfect combination of effortless, cute and sexy, but it’s practical as well. Whether you’ll be taking long sightseeing strolls around a new city, going to the beach (with your bikini under the dress), or even going to a brunch and taking plenty of #ootd snaps, you are good to go.
The only thing we would change about this look is the bag. With this gorgeous pink summer dress, the situation definitely calls for something with more summery, so a woven bag or even a nude tote would be a much better and cohesive choice.
The nonchalantly chic vibes
Leave it to Victoria Beckham to show us how to do casual and still stop traffic. The designer is known for her love of simplicity, but even we didn’t expect that she could pull off something this simple and still look absolutely stunning. She wore a simple pair of flared jeans and a simple white tee tucked into them. Her hair was put in a low ponytail, and the only accessory was a pair of killer sunglasses.
This is a lesson to us all – we tend to overthink our outfit choices and go so overboard that we become oblivious to the effectiveness of the simple outfits and the precious basics that get us there. This is the lesson: never underestimate your basics.
French Riviera all the way
Recently, we have been witness to street style trends that took over Sydney during the resort fashion week, and one of the things that stood out the most was the abundance of amazing white dresses. Some were fitted and formal, others full of ruffles and frilly vibes.
White dresses are definitely a summer staple, and we should never forget that, so let this amazing look rocked by the stunning Isabeli Fontana remind you of the power of a great white sundress topped off with a pair of heels, or even flat or block-heel mules. Trends may come and go, but sundresses are forever.
Just in case your weekend getaway is to a beach destination, we have a quick reminder that retro swimsuits are back in style, so snag something cute and retro. Jaime Kind decided to mix whimsical cherries and a retro cut, but you can choose your own version of the retro swimsuit – it can even be a sexy two-piece. As long as you’ve got your kaftan or kimono for when the sun goes down, your retro sunglasses and a clear beach tote by your side, you will be as much of a beach goddess as any celebrity out there.
