Launched in 2012 Zhivago created a whirlwind of excitement after their collection showed at the Perth Fashion Festival. Zhivago meaning “daring”in Russian is the result of the friendship of two creative women Lara Kovacevich and Lydia Tsvetnenko who are behind the innovatively chic designs. Dressing celebrities such as Dannii Minogue, Delta Goodrem, Mel B and being featured in the first Australian issue of Elle Magazine this Western Australian brand has certainly made it’s mark in the fashion industry.
Zhivago’s stand out collection titled Suspended Animationshowcased at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival as their website states the Spring Summer 13/14 collection was a “cohesive 12-piece collection with a juxtaposition of influences that included athletica, body con boudiour-luxe and their signature high-octane eveningwear.”
The collection was kept prominently monochromatic except for bold reds and a stand out bronze sequined dress with a plunging neckline, which wowed the audience at the fashion festival. This dress is seen on Chadwick Model Grady Wulff below, behind the scenes at the show.

Their designs embody an elegant femininity within each piece but have a sharp edgy quality that is uniquely their own. This strong motif caught the eye of Lady Gaga who wore one of their pieces in early 2013, which was no doubt a highlight in their fashion career. In an interview with Absolute Amy Lara described their aesthetic and vision behind each piece “Each season we pick an inspiration and use that for our shapes, we don’t look to other designers and what they are doing and I think that shows in the clothes. Our shapes are very strong, we love sharp tailoring and using leathers.”Zhivago’s Timeless dress below as worn by Lady Gaga shows the sleek and tailored lines the label is synonymously known for.
After participating two consecutive StyleAid events in 2012 and 2013, StyleAid is an Western Australia charity event that raises awareness about HIV/AIDS, the event has now gone into it’s 16th year. This fashionable charity has showcased Australia’s best labesl such as Aurelio Costarella. Lara and Lydia became known for their phenomenal creativity and resilience after this year’s disaster, when all of Zhivago’s designs at the 2013 Styleaid event were stolen away in a hummer. Leaving the designers without their whole entire collection for the night but this did not stop the duo, that managed to put together a spectacular line to close the runway show at the end of the night.
